Tadao Ando Architecture Archiveは、安藤忠雄建築を実際に訪ね、自分で撮影した写真と現地での体験をもとに記録する個人アーカイブです。
このサイトでは、単に建築作品の情報を集めるのではなく、現地で見た建築の姿と、信頼できる資料から確認できる情報をできる限り丁寧に残すことを大切にしています。
以下は、このArchiveの記事を制作・更新する際の基本方針です。
1. 実際に訪れた建築を記録する
このArchiveの記事は、原則として管理人自身が現地を訪れた建築を対象としています。
建物へのアプローチ、周囲の街並みや地形、建築の見え方、内部を見学できた場合にはその空間など、現地を歩いたからこそ確認できたことを記録します。
公開されている情報だけをもとに、訪れていない建築の体験を推測して書くことはしません。
2. 写真は現地で自ら撮影する
記事およびBuilding Archiveに掲載する建築写真は、特記がない限り、管理人が現地を訪れて撮影したものです。
写真は単なる装飾ではなく、その建築を訪れた時点の姿を記録する資料の一部と考えています。
建築そのものだけでなく、敷地との関係、周辺環境、アプローチ、素材やディテールなど、その場所で実際に確認できた状況が伝わる写真を選んでいます。
3. 建築情報は信頼できる資料で確認する
建築名称、設計者、所在地、竣工年、用途、構造、増改築などの基本情報については、可能な限り一次資料・公式資料を優先して確認します。
建築家・設計事務所、施設や事業者、自治体、美術館・博物館、出版社などの公式情報を優先し、必要に応じて建築専門誌や書籍など複数の資料を参照します。
資料によって情報が異なる場合や、十分な根拠を確認できない場合は、無理に一つの結論を作らず、確認できる範囲で記載します。
4. 事実・観察・個人的な感想を区別する
このArchiveでは、記事の中に含まれる情報をできる限り、
資料から確認できる事実
現地や写真から確認できること
管理人自身の体験や感想
に分けて考えています。
建築についての解釈を、確認された設計意図や歴史的事実であるかのように記述しないことを基本としています。
個人的な体験や印象については、主に「My Impression」で記録しています。
5. 確認できない情報を推測で補わない
長い時間をかけて建築を巡っていると、資料が少ない作品や、名称・竣工年・用途などの情報が資料によって異なる作品に出会うことがあります。
また、安藤忠雄による設計とされる建物であっても、信頼できる根拠を確認できない場合があります。
そのような場合、このArchiveでは「おそらく」「安藤建築らしい」といった印象だけを根拠に作品として確定することはしません。
確認できないことは、確認できないまま残すこともアーカイブの一部だと考えています。
6. 写真とプライバシーへの配慮
現地で撮影した写真には、建築とは直接関係のない人物、車両、住宅などが写り込む場合があります。
公開前に写真を確認し、必要に応じて人物の顔、車両ナンバー、住宅の表札や住所など、個人を特定する可能性のある情報に配慮して処理を行います。
建築の記録として必要な情報をできるだけ残しながら、第三者のプライバシーを尊重することを基本方針としています。
7. 記事の修正と更新
建築に関する情報は、新しい資料の発見、施設の改修、用途変更、閉館、解体などによって更新が必要になる場合があります。
公開後により信頼性の高い資料が見つかった場合や、記載内容に誤りが確認された場合は、必要に応じて記事を修正します。
このArchiveを完成したデータベースではなく、現地訪問と調査を重ねながら更新していく記録として運営しています。
8. 広告・アフィリエイトについて
一部の記事では、その建築や安藤忠雄についてさらに知るための書籍を紹介しています。

Editorial Policy — English
Tadao Ando Architecture Archive is an independently operated personal archive documenting visits to the architecture of Tadao Ando through original photography, on-site experience, and architectural research.
Rather than simply collecting information about architectural works, the archive aims to preserve what was actually encountered on site while presenting factual information as accurately as possible through reliable sources.
The following principles guide how articles in this archive are researched, written, photographed, and updated.
1. Documenting Architecture Visited in Person
As a general principle, articles in this archive document buildings that I have personally visited.
I record aspects that can be understood through an actual visit: the approach to the building, its relationship with the surrounding city or landscape, changes in perception while moving around it, and interior spaces when access is possible.
I do not describe an experience of a building I have not visited as though I had been there.
2. Original Photography
Unless otherwise noted, architectural photographs published in the articles and Building Archive were taken by me during my visits.
The photographs are treated not simply as illustrations, but as part of the record of how each work appeared at the time of the visit.
Images are selected to document not only the building itself, but also its relationship with the site, surrounding environment, approach, materials, and architectural details when these can be observed.
3. Verifying Architectural Information
Basic information such as the name of a building, architect, location, completion date, use, structure, and later alterations is checked against reliable sources whenever possible.
Priority is given to primary and official sources, including information published by architects and architectural offices, institutions, building operators, municipalities, museums, publishers, and other relevant organizations. Architectural publications and books are also consulted when appropriate.
When sources conflict or reliable evidence cannot be found, the archive does not force an unsupported conclusion. Information is presented only to the extent that it can reasonably be verified.
4. Distinguishing Fact, Observation, and Personal Impression
The archive seeks to distinguish between:
facts supported by reliable sources,
observations made on site or from the photographs,
and personal experiences and impressions.
Architectural interpretation is not presented as documented design intent or historical fact unless reliable evidence supports that interpretation.
Personal experiences and impressions are primarily recorded in the “My Impression” section.
5. Avoiding Unsupported Assumptions
Over many years of visiting architecture, I have encountered works for which documentation is limited, as well as buildings whose names, dates, uses, or attribution differ between sources.
There are also buildings that have been described as works by Tadao Ando for which reliable evidence of authorship cannot be confirmed.
In such cases, this archive does not identify a building as an Ando work solely because it appears stylistically similar or because an attribution has been repeated without sufficient documentation.
Leaving something unresolved until better evidence becomes available is also part of maintaining an archive.
6. Photography and Privacy
Photographs taken in public and architectural environments may incidentally include people, vehicles, residences, or other information unrelated to the architecture itself.
Before publication, photographs are reviewed and, when necessary, identifying details such as faces, vehicle license plates, residential nameplates, addresses, or similar personal information are obscured.
The aim is to preserve useful architectural documentation while respecting the privacy of people who happen to appear in the surrounding environment.
7. Corrections and Updates
Architectural information may change or require revision as new documentation becomes available or as buildings are renovated, repurposed, closed, or demolished.
When more reliable information is found, or when an error is identified, articles may be corrected or updated accordingly.
This archive is therefore not treated as a finished database, but as an evolving record developed through continued visits and research.
8. Advertising and Affiliate Links
Some articles introduce books that provide additional information about a particular building or the architecture of Tadao Ando.
Some product links may be affiliate links. The presence or absence of advertising or affiliate links does not determine the architectural evaluation or editorial content of an article.
Pages containing affiliate links include a disclosure indicating their presence.
