Tadao Ando Architecture Archive

About the Tadao Ando Architecture Archive
The Tadao Ando Architecture Archive is a personal archive dedicated to documenting the architecture of Tadao Ando through firsthand visits, photography, and personal experience.
Rather than simply introducing architectural works, this archive seeks to preserve something far more difficult to capture.
The experience of being there.
Walking through the space.
Feeling the light.
Listening to the silence.
Sensing the wind and the atmosphere that surround each building.
These are moments that photographs alone can never fully convey.
One by one, they are recorded here.
Why This Archive Exists
Architecture is beautiful in photographs.
But photographs can never tell the whole story.
There is something that can only be understood by standing inside the space itself.
The texture of exposed concrete.
The way natural light moves throughout the day.
The surrounding landscape.
The subtle changes brought by each season.
These experiences exist only on site.
This archive was created to preserve those moments, and to share the unique experience of encountering architecture in person.
About the Photographs
Every photograph published on this site was taken during my own visit to each location.
Each article reflects the conditions at the time of that visit. As a result, information such as opening hours, admission policies, or visitor access may change over time.
Photographs taken at schools and other educational institutions are published with permission.
If you are planning a visit, please refer to each facility’s official website for the most up-to-date information.
About the Author
My journey began in the year 2000.
While working in Osaka, I happened to discover a building called GALLERIA [akka].
That unexpected encounter introduced me to the architecture of Tadao Ando.
Since then, I have traveled throughout Japan, visiting his buildings one by one and gradually building this archive through my own experiences.
More than twenty-five years have passed since that first encounter, yet the excitement I felt that day has never faded.
A Final Thought
My hope is that this archive will inspire people not only to admire architecture, but to experience it for themselves.
Whether you are planning your very first visit to a building by Tadao Ando,
or returning to a place that has stayed in your memory,
I hope these pages encourage you to take that journey.
Because architecture is more than something to be seen.
It is something to be experienced.
If this archive inspires even one person to discover the world of Tadao Ando’s architecture, then it has fulfilled its purpose.
